Tic Tac Toe may seem like a modern game, but it has deep historical roots. It was first documented in ancient Egypt around 1300 BC. The Romans had a version called terni lapilli, in which each player had three pebbles on a numbered grid. From pencil-and-paper drafts, all the way to current digital designs, the essence of the game has not changed.

How It Works

Two players alternate placing their Mark (X or O) on the grid to create a line of three (three in a row - vertical, horizontal, or diagonal). The winner is the first one to form a three-line formation! If the board fills before anyone wins, the match is a draw.

1. First Is Best If You Get It: The first player starts with an advantage, use it wisely!
2. Center Control: Owning the center square gives you a greater chance of winning.
